Mistakes Companies Make with their Online Marketing
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
There are many mistakes that companies make with their marketing efforts when they write their own content on web pages. These mistakes include copying content from elsewhere, using too many keywords unnaturally, not using enough content, and much more.
Content is a very important aspect on a website and it works as a marketing technique that you must be aware of. The best thing that you can do is hire a professional to provide the content for you. Many companies write their own content to cut down on costs and they suffer with less revenues, less traffic, and other problems with their online business.
One of the ways that many retail companies make mistakes online is by copying content. The most common way that companies copy is by selling products. It is very common for a company that might be selling artificial Christmas trees to find the exact trees their competitor is selling. Because they don’t know what to say about the Christmas trees they will copy the exact product description and basic information about them and then paste on their site. The problem with this is that when you show that your lighted palm trees have the exact same information as a popular site on the web then the robots integrated in the search engines will eliminate your page from the search results. This results in less traffic to a site and also less revenues. If an entire website is copied then it may result in no customers at all and can cause a business to entirely shut down.
Too many keywords are another factor that many people don’t consider to be a detriment when they build a website and provide their own content. It is very common for a company to write the same keywords over and over because they may be describing products or services and they cannot think of a better word so they use the same words. If the same words are listed over and over on a site it will cause that particular page to be removed from the search engine also. The keywords on a page must be listed naturally and in a way that is how it should be used. Many people try to cheat by placing keywords in the code on the back end of a web page too. A search engine robot is designed to search for cheating and excessive use of keywords. When you do this then your site will be black listed.
Many companies also fail because they don’t use enough content on their site. They may have a retail site without any words on it but just photos and tell the customers to buy here. The problem with this is that customers need details about products and a reason to buy from you. Just because you have the best prices will not sell products. Plus, no content will cause you to be listed less on search engines if at all. Not enough content will also cause you to have less credibility with the customers also. Customers want to know that you know what you are talking about.
